Digipack 2

I decided to change the CD tray into an actual image. The centre of the image is the barrel a key concept in the video, which also mimics the shape of the CD. The bottom of the image is a high angle shot of some wooden palates and rusted wheel rims. This shows the first half of the video and the decaying metal aesthetic it has. The high angle shot shows the powerlessness of the protagonist in this section of the video. The top of the image shows the forest in the second half of the video. To attract my target audience and to make the CD stand out, I brightened the colours, which also gives the image of a clean, bright area decaying. To fit in with the style, I edited the colours in the CD tray.

Digipack version 1

Using close up images of grime, images of the forest and eroded fonts (No More Lies, Dirty Headline) I created a digipack to show the grimy and abstract nature of my music video. The black CD tray with the white CD creates a contrast, showing the emotional contrast between the first and last part of the video without spoiling the video.

Video Rough Cut 3

In this version, I edited and finished the first and second chorus. I finished the final chorus and expanded on the clock motif.

Video Rough Cut 2

Video rough cut 2. I aded some still images to fill space. I chose images which reference the lyrics, so it will be easier to see where I need to put the video clips. These will be replaced by video.

Questionnaire Results

To gain information about my target audience, I created a questionnaire on Google Forms.

The majority of my audience are aged 17, so this is the target audience I will aim for. I will have a relatable narrative to attract this audience.

The majority of these answers show that the majority of my audience are male. Therefore, I will tell the narrative from a male point of view.

The majority stated that pop music was their favourite genre. However, I will subvert expectations and create something other than a generic pop video as I think it will stand out more.

This question shows that the majority of people prefer abstract to a literal video. this information has lead me to create an abstract video.

The three answers which I can use from this question show that the audience expect performances, an alternate universe and a unique idea. I will include a performance and have am idea which is a different take on the basic break-up storyline.

Lip sync, meaning and performance are the most important aspects of a video, so these are the aspects I will focus on mostly.

This question refers to the the official video for Radioactive by Imagine Dragons. Close-ups are the only answer I can use from these responses.

Issues
The main issue with this is that the audience may have a less than serious response to the questions. Many answers are jokes which are useless to me, so I had to use the ones I could.

24/11/16

Today I worked on my video, adding more shots (the flower scene and the establishing shots at the start) and updated my poster design. I reworked the layout, making it look more professional, added social media and changed the font to Franklin Gothic Heavy which is easier to read.

Video Draft Start

Using the footage I took over the weekend, I began editing together my first draft of my video. I used final cut to organise and edit the footage. To give a broken feel to the video, I used effects such as Bad TV and X-Ray. One of the shots is out of focus, so i will have to retake it later.

Poster version 1

For my first version of the poster, I used the image of the rusted trailer on a cantered angle, which references the video. I increased the saturation and gave the image a slightly red hue, creating a surreal atmosphere and highlighting the rust and decay. Using the 'War is Over' font from DaFont, I created the text for the poster. Although I think the font fits the idea and style of the video, I can't use lower case letters with it, and due to the decay effect, it is difficult to read in a smaller font. This makes the title difficult to pick out. I will change the font and add images for social media.

Recce Shots

These are recce shots of my main locations for filming. I have found various objects and locations which have given me ideas for m music video.

Location 1 A

This area, located around the back of my grandparents house, will be good for the video, especially for the lip sync shots, as the area looks cramped due to the mise-en-scene, but is large enough to perform in.

Location 1 B

This area will be used for cutaways during the first verse due to the rusted, abandoned look of various objects.

Location 1 C
Although the main building in the area, a small shed, does not have a rusted or broken look to it. some objects on the back of the shed do, so I could use it for a cut away.

Location 1 D

I could use this area fr the flower burning scenes due to the brick texture on some of the walls. Alternatively, I could film the scene in Location 1 A. However, some close-up cutaways of decaying leaves in the compost heap would be good to keep the theme of the destruction of nature shown by the flower burning scene.

Location 1 E

The trees in this area could be a major part of the video. The tree surrounded by scrap metal would be god for the introduction of the protagonist.

Location 1 F

The cramped shed in this area could be used for some lip sync moments, while the wooden fence could be used in some of the later verses to show the protagonist entering the forest.

Location 2

The heavy industrial look of the exterior of the NWG building would be good for cutaways or lip sync. A low angle shot (such as photo 2) could be used in the transition from the into to the first verse.

Location 3

The cramped natural look of the forest would work very well for the second verse. Close ups of the stream in photo 10 and floating wood in photo 13 would be good for cutaways.

Location 4 A

This location would be good for establishing shots at the start, especially the floating tree in the lake.

This area could be use for verse 3 and the introduction. The shots of the dead tree and the sky through the branches show what I am aiming for in my intro

Location 4 C

These carved benches have a strange aesthetic. They could symbolise the protagonist finding himself and coming to terms with his mistakes, by implying the image of someone thinking alone on a bench, as well as bring closure to the man vs nature theme, with people working alongside and embracing nature instead of fighting it.
